Jammu: Amid tight security, the sixth batch of over 6,351 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas here in a convoy of 239 vehicles for the Amarnath shrine. Till Tuesday, over 72,000 pilgrims had offered their prayers at the cave shrine. — PTI

Officials asked to expedite work on water project

Jammu: Umang Narula, Adviser to Ladakh Lieutenant-Governor, at a meeting, directed officials to intensify the work for piped water connection to every home in the cold desert. The meeting was organised to review the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission’s implementation in both Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh. OC

Nepal man with mental illness detained near LoC in Poonch

Jammu: A man, said to be having mental illness, was on Tuesday detained by the Army after he was moving in a suspicious manner in a forward village near the Line of Control in Poonch district. He has been identified as Shiv Kumar (30), a resident of Nepal, officials said. He was taken to a hospital where doctors confirmed he had mental illness. The Army later handed over him to the police.
