6.74 lakh households complete self-enumeration for Census in J&K, Ladakh

Addressing a press conference, Amit Sharma described the response to the self-enumeration phase as highly encouraging. He said 6,67,517 households in J&K and 7,009 households in Ladakh completed self-enumeration through the official portal before the start of HLO.

He noted that enthusiastic participation was recorded across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir, with Pulwama, Jammu and Kulgam registering particularly encouraging responses. Sharma also appreciated the participation of residents from Leh and Kargil districts and thanked district administrations, Principal Census Officers, field functionaries, media organisations and citizens for contributing to the successful completion of the self-enumeration phase.

Highlighting the scale of preparations for Census 2027, Sharma said House Listing Block demarcation and geo-tagging activities have been virtually completed across both Union Territories. More than 23,600 House Listing Blocks have been demarcated in Jammu and Kashmir and 567 in Ladakh.

He further said extensive training programmes have been conducted for Master Trainers, Field Trainers, Enumerators and Supervisors to ensure uniform and professional implementation of Census operations across all districts, including remote areas.

More than 27,000 Census kits have already been dispatched across J&K, while around 800 kits have been distributed in Ladakh, ensuring that field functionaries are fully equipped for House Listing Operations, he added.

Urging residents to cooperate with Census officials, Sharma said House Listing Operations constitute a crucial phase of Census 2027, aimed at collecting data on housing and living conditions. He stressed the importance of providing accurate information to facilitate effective planning and welfare programmes.

He assured residents that all information collected during Census operations remains strictly confidential under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948, and is used solely for statistical purposes. Individual information, he clarified, is protected by law and cannot be shared with any agency or institution.

Sharma also said special arrangements have been made to ensure coverage of remote, border, tribal, migratory and nomadic populations so that no household or individual is left out of the Census exercise.
