Srinagar, July 13
Amid the surge in Covid cases, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on Monday reimposed lockdown restrictions in most parts of Srinagar and some other areas.
On Monday, the death toll reached 184 in J&K, including 167 in Kashmir and 17 in Jammu. Over 10,000 persons have been tested positive since the outbreak in J&K, with Srinagar having the highest number of deaths and positive cases.
The police and the CRPF reimposed restrictions in large parts of Srinagar on Monday and did not allow any civilian or vehicular movement. The business hub of Lal Chowk was also sealed by the authorities.
In Srinagar, District Magistrate Shahid Choudhary had issued orders for restrictions on public movement and activities in 88 areas notified as red zones after a sharp spike in positive cases reported in the district in the last couple of weeks. “The decision to impose restrictions has been taken after recommendations of experts and is aimed at containing further spread of the virus,” Choudhary had said.
Restrictions were also reimposed in Anantnag district.
