Artillery shell found in border village in J-K's Rajouri, destroyed by security forces

Officials said the shell was subjected to technical examination by experts at the site

A high explosive artillery shell was found in a forward village in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, officials said.

Locals in Dhanaka village of Nowshera sub-division spotted the shell on Sunday and informed the security forces, they said.

Subsequently, a joint team of police and the Army rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area, they said.

Officials said the shell was subjected to technical examination by experts at the site. Later, the Army's bomb disposal unit destroyed the explosive through a controlled blast as per safety protocols, they said.

The timely action by security forces may have prevented a possible accident in the area, officials added.
