BDO among three arrested in fake currency racket

Fake notes worth ₹79,000 seized

Jammu and Kashmir Police in South Kashmir’s Shopian have busted a fake currency circulation racket and recovered counterfeit notes worth Rs 79,000, leading to the arrest of three persons, including a Block Development Officer (BDO).

According to a statement, the action followed a complaint from a local shopkeeper. Police Station Shopian subsequently registered a case under the relevant sections of law and launched an investigation.

The complainant had reported that an individual used fake currency notes while purchasing goods from his shop.

During the investigation, police recovered counterfeit notes amounting to Rs 79,000 from the accused and their associate, identified as Mohd Syed Wani, Mohd Maqbool Naikoo and Peerzada Altaf, BDO Zainapora.

“All the accused persons have been formally arrested and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the fake currency and identify others involved in the circulation network,” police said.

Shopian police urged the public to remain vigilant during currency transactions and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
