"Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation (CFV) along the LoC in Nowgam sector by firing mortars and other weapons. Befitting response was given," an Army statement in Srinagar said.

Sources said firing is still going on in Nowgam.

There was no immediate report of any loss of life in the cross border shelling so far.
