In a post on social media, Dr Singh said the Sudhmahadev–Dranga tunnels will span 12.85 km, while the Singhpora–Vailoo tunnel will extend over 38.61 km, including two-lane plus paved shoulder approaches. The projects will be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 9,779.42 crore.

He added that the approval dispels “misguided rumours” in recent months suggesting that the projects had been abandoned. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for clearing the projects.

He said the tunnels would significantly enhance connectivity, ensure all-weather access and accelerate economic growth in the Chenab valley and adjoining regions.
