Cleanliness, urban improvement drive launched in Leh on L-G’s directions
Initiative aims to transform Leh into one of the cleanest, most organised, and tourist-friendly cities in the country
In pursuance of the directions of Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, a comprehensive cleanliness and urban improvement drive has been launched in Leh city with renewed vigour and commitment.
According to an official statement, the initiative aims to transform Leh into one of the cleanest, most organised, and tourist-friendly cities in the country.
Officials said that, acting in mission mode, government agencies have begun large-scale operations to remove accumulated dust, as well as construction and demolition waste, from roadsides across key areas of the city.
The initial phase of the drive focuses on prominent locations, including Lok Niwas, the Secretariat, Leh Main Market, Jivetsal, and adjoining areas.
Simultaneously, preparatory work for extensive plantation is underway. Pits are being dug along these stretches to enhance green cover and improve the city’s aesthetic appeal. This integrated approach is intended not only to improve sanitation but also to promote environmental sustainability and urban beautification.
The initiative follows Saxena’s visit to Leh Market and Old Leh Town on March 15, during which he issued clear directives for a sustained effort to address sanitation, infrastructure development, and overall urban management, the statement added.
Officials said Saxena, who is personally monitoring the progress of the works, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing efforts. He noted that such coordinated and determined action would significantly contribute to creating a clean, well-organised, and visitor-friendly urban environment in Leh.
Reiterating his vision for Ladakh, the Lieutenant Governor emphasised that sustained efforts by government agencies, along with active public participation, are essential to position Ladakh as one of the world’s most sought-after tourist destinations.
