Cong holds protest in Jammu over atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh

Congress leaders and workers on Wednesday staged a protest in Jammu city against the alleged atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, urging the Central government to take firm steps to ensure the safety and security of minorities there.

The protest was held at Shaheedi Chowk, where a large number of senior party leaders, former ministers, ex-legislators, and prominent functionaries participated and raised slogans against the Bangladesh government.

The protest was led by the party’s working president Raman Bhalla, along with chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, former minister Yash Pal Kundal, and other leaders. Addressing the gathering, the Congress leaders recalled former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s decisive role in matters related to Bangladesh.

Raman Bhalla said the entire nation stands united against communal and radical forces and emphasised that the Central government must take appropriate action in the matter. He described the reported incidents in Bangladesh as barbaric and intolerable, adding that the senior leadership of the Congress has expressed serious concern over the situation.

Ravinder Sharma said the emerging situation in Bangladesh was alarming, noting that several neighbouring countries have already adopted hostile postures towards India. He alleged that this reflects the failure of the BJP-led Central government and stressed the need for a comprehensive review of India’s foreign policy.
