At a time when social media posts fanning communal disharmony have become common, a video of Kashmiri Pandits extending Eid greetings to Muslims in the Valley has got good response and gone viral.

‘To bridge gap between two communities’

We have taken this initiative to bridge the gap between the two communities. The video has been well received and many have suggested that we should celebrate our festivals together. — Satish Mahaldar, Chairman, Reconciliation, Return & Rehabilitation of Migrants

The video messages of 22 Pandits compiled and edited by Valley-based Amit Wanchoo is doing rounds on the social media and has also been promoting communal bonhomie.

Besides extending Eid greetings, the messages of the Pandits have struck the right cord on the social media sites such as Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter.

“Many people are poor and needy. It is our duty to help them on this day....but remember one thing....if you help someone with your left hand, your right hand should not come to know about it,” said Narinder Safaya in his Eid greetings.

Many prayed for the return of peace and happiness in the Valley. “I pray to God to grant all Kashmiris lots of peace and happiness,” said another displaced Pandit, Ranjan Nehru.

The reactions on the social media have been positive towards the video and many hoped for the return of the displaced Kashmiri Pandits.

“Such acts will definitely remove the mistrust created by a few having political affiliations for their vested interests,” said M Sidiq.
