Engineer Rashid returns to Tihar Jail after interim bail ends

Baramulla Member of Parliament and Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) president Engineer Rashid returned to Tihar Jail on Monday after the expiry of his five-day interim bail, which had been granted from June 25 to June 30 to allow him to attend the 40th-day mourning rituals following the death of his father.

According to reports, emotional scenes unfolded at Rashid's residence in Srinagar as family members, relatives and supporters bid him a tearful farewell before he departed for New Delhi in compliance with the Delhi High Court's directions.

AIP chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said Rashid has consistently respected the rule of law and complied with every judicial order. However, he said Rashid's prolonged incarceration has caused significant hardship to his family and deprived the people of the Baramulla parliamentary constituency of direct access to their elected representative.

He appealed to the Government of India and the judiciary to facilitate Rashid's release, saying it would enable him to discharge the responsibilities entrusted to him by the people.
