The Jammu and Kashmir police and the Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday rewarded a farmer in Samba district with Rs 3 lakh for informing the security forces about a Pakistani drone lying in his field in January.

The farmer, identified as Bhagwan Das of Nandpur village, was spraying insecticides on his agriculture land when he found a drone lying in the field. He immediately informed the BSF about the drone that had come from the Pakistan side.

He was honoured during an event at Chamliyal village in Samba on Thursday. Besides BSF Inspector General DK Boora and Samba SSP Vinay Kumar Sharma, villagers of Chani Fatwal, Chak Nazir, Nandpur, Pindi, Dug, Abtal and Kaku-Da-Kotha and schoolchildren attended the function.

Boora said the Union Home Ministry had approved a plan for the construction of a protection bund along the International Border (IB) for the safety of farmers and it will be completed within the next five years.

Sharma said the Jammu and Kashmir Police had rolled out a policy of rewarding those who provide information about cross-border tunnels or Pakistani drones.
