Govt to use AI in anti-graft probes

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into governance by constituting a Technical Appraisal Committee (TAC) to vet a proposal on the use of AI in the investigative operations of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

The General Administration Department (GAD) has issued an order sanctioning the constitution of a TAC for the project titled “Adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Investigative Operations in the ACB.”

“In terms of S.O. 227 dated 09.07.2021 of the Finance Department, sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of a Technical Appraisal Committee for the project ‘Adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Investigative Operations in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB),’” the order reads.

The committee includes experts and senior officials from various fields to examine the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposal. It will evaluate the project across technical, financial, legal and operational parameters and submit its findings to the Information Technology Department within 45 days.

The committee comprises the Chief Executive Officer of JaKeGA as Chairperson; the State Informatics Officer, National Informatics Centre (NIC), J&K; Prof Majid Zaman, Department of Computer Science, University of Kashmir; Dr Shabir Ahmed Sofi, Associate Professor, Department of Information Technology, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar; and Dr Mrinmoy Bhattacharjee, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu, as members. The Under Secretary to the Government, Information Technology Department, will serve as Member Secretary.

“AIG (Administration), ACB Headquarters, shall act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for the committee,” the order reads. The order further states that the committee will review the technical, financial, administrative, legal and operational aspects of the project.
