Influx of drugs in J&K part of international conspiracy: L-G Sinha
Chairs a high-level meeting to review the preparedness for an upcoming campaign against drugs
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said that influx of drugs in Jammu and Kashmir was an international conspiracy to damage the future generations.
“The influx of drugs to the UT is part of a larger international conspiracy to jeopardize the future of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. Every section of the society must join this fight against the drug menace,” the Lieutenant Governor said while chairing a high-level meeting to review the preparedness for an upcoming campaign against drugs.
Aimed at eradicating drug abuse from the UT, the campaign will be marked by a series of high-impact awareness programmes. The L-G will flag off a foot march from MA Stadium, Jammu, on April 11 followed by a similar large-scale launch in Srinagar during the first week of May.
Sinha directed for continuous and intensive drives to dismantle drug trafficking networks. He emphasized on mass public participation of students and youth, NCC, NSS, Scouts & Guides, volunteers, civil society organisations, political parties, public representatives and the general public to maximise outreach and awareness.
“‘Don’t touch the innocent and don’t spare the culprit’ is our policy. We must identify the real victims of drug abuse and make committed efforts for their rehabilitation,” the L-G said.
The meeting also discussed the series of activities planned and department-wise activity calendar prepared for the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan. UT and Divisional Level Committees have already been constituted for effective implementation of the IEC campaign and action plan.
The Lieutenant Governor further directed to make this a public campaign with active participation of general public. He also called for integration of public suggestions along with the feedback mechanism to make this campaign more impactful. Common people should also be encouraged to report drug abuse cases, he said.
The meeting was attended by Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; SJM Gillani, Special DG (Coordination); Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary Home; Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor; Sarmad Hafeez, Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare Department and others.
