Jammu SP reviews security preparedness with VDGs

The meeting focused on area familiarisation, operational readiness and the crucial role played by VDGs in maintaining vigil in sensitive pockets. Sharma emphasised that their local knowledge and alertness remain vital in preventing inimical activities and safeguarding peace in the region.

During the interaction, Sharma along with other police officials and concerned beat officers interacted extensively with both paid and voluntary VDGs. Their issues and concerns were patiently heard and assurances were given regarding their timely redressal. He appreciated their dedication, discipline and commitment towards maintaining peace, security and tranquillity at the grassroots level, while motivating them to remain vigilant, physically fit and operationally ready at all times.

Highlighting the rich legacy of the VDGs, the SP recalled that several VDG members in the past have been honoured with prestigious awards, including the Shaurya Chakra, for their exemplary courage and devotion to duty. He stressed that the same highest traditions of bravery, discipline and selfless service must continue to be upheld by the VDG members of South Zone.

Sharma underlined the importance of close and seamless coordination between VDGs, the concerned officials and other security agencies to ensure effective intelligence sharing and swift response to any emerging threat. He categorically stated that any attempt by inimical elements or the enemy to disturb peace and security would be dealt with firmly and effectively.

The VDGs were specifically briefed to remain highly alert with regard to any suspicious movement, drone-dropping incidents or possible infiltration attempts and to immediately pass on such information to the police and security forces without delay.

As part of strengthening night domination, it was decided that VDGs will operate in small patrol groups, with each group including one member from the police post. These patrols will function from sunset to sunrise to ensure enhanced surveillance and area domination. It was further directed that all kind of details shall be uploaded where the Army and BSF is also a part to avoid any confusion or misidentification of nakas established by VDGs.

As part of the security review, weapons issued to the VDGs were physically checked for serviceability and proper maintenance, and necessary instructions were issued regarding safe handling, storage and operational readiness.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the confidence of the VDGs and reiterating the firm commitment of the Jammu police to work shoulder-to-shoulder with them in safeguarding national security and maintaining peace in the border and vulnerable areas of South Jammu.
