Jammu’s Chandeep Singh bags historic gold at Asian Para Taekwondo meet

Indian para taekwondo athlete Chandeep Singh from Jammu and Kashmir won the gold medal in the over-80 kg category at the 11th Asian Para Taekwondo Championship held in Mongolia.

This is the first time that any para athlete from J&K has won a gold medal at the Asian Para Taekwondo Championship, bringing immense pride to the Union Territory. The championship concluded recently.

In a statement, Singh said, “This medal is for my country, my team and every single person who believed in me throughout the journey. I believe true champions are not defined by the level of competition, but by the sacrifices, discipline and efforts they put in every single day during training — all to give their best when the final moment arrives.”

He further said, “Standing on this podium with the Indian flag in my heart is an emotion that words can never fully describe. Proud to win gold, and even prouder to represent India on the international stage.”

Competing against top para athletes from across Asia, Chandeep Singh delivered a disciplined and powerful performance to clinch the top honour in the heavyweight category.
