J&K Govt forms panel to probe Santosh Trophy selection

Many political parties had alleged discrimination against players from Jammu

The Jammu and Kashmir government has initiated an inquiry into the selection process of the UT football team for participation in the Santosh Trophy.

The government issued an order stating that the inquiry committee will examine the selection process of the team for participation in the 79th National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy so as to ascertain the factual position.

Many political parties had alleged discrimination with the players from Jammu as barring one, all other players were selected from Kashmir region for the team. Even Congress, the alliance partner of National Conference, had criticised the government.

The inquiry committee will be headed by Director General, Youth Services and Sports, J&K, Anuradha Gupta. Six other members from different departments are part of the panel.

The committee has been asked to submit its recommendations on the basis of findings post inquiry. It has been asked to submit the report within seven days.
