J&K Police attach drug peddler’s property worth Rs 7 crore in Kathua
Police said the property had been acquired through proceeds from narcotics-related activities
Kathua Police on Wednesday attached immovable property worth approximately Rs 7 crore belonging to a PIT-NDPS detenue allegedly involved in narcotics trafficking.
The attached property comprise 6 kanal and 18 marlas of land along with a single-storey residential house with a basement, having a plinth area of 2,107.78 square feet.
The property belongs to Harpaul Singh Balochi, a resident of Ward No. 13, Kathua district, and was attached under the provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.
Police said the property was identified as illegally acquired during the course of investigation. The proceedings were carried out under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Mohita Sharma.
Investigators found that Harpaul Singh possessed immovable property situated under Khasra No. 362/60 at Chak Sheikha in Kathua, which was prima facie acquired through proceeds generated from illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
“Today, in the presence of the Naib Tehsildar and the concerned Patwari, a team led by the DySP Headquarters and SHO Kathua formally attached the property under Sections 68-E and 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985,” a police spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that the investigation revealed the property had been acquired through proceeds from narcotics-related activities. Since the property was prima facie found to have been acquired through illicit drug trafficking, it was attached in accordance with the law.
Police said the accused has been involved in four NDPS cases registered in Kathua district.
“Local residents have appreciated the initiative of Kathua Police in attaching immovable properties raised or used through illicit narcotics trafficking by drug peddlers in the district,” the spokesperson added.
