In a continued drive under the ‘Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan’, Jammu and Kashmir Police, in coordination with the civil administration, have intensified action against drug-related activities across South Kashmir and other parts of the Valley.In Anantnag, authorities demolished multiple illegal roadside eateries built on state land along National Highway-44 at Sangam. The structures were allegedly linked to individuals involved in cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and registered at Bijbehara police station.Among the demolished establishments were ‘Kashmir Restaurant’ owned by Gul Mohammad Mir and Bashir Ahmad Mir, ‘Taj Restaurant’ linked to Mohammad Maqbool Mir along with his sons Aijaz Ahmad and Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Mir, and ‘MIR Restaurant’ belonging to Amma Mir, officials said, adding that the action targeted assets linked to alleged drug offenders.The crackdown was part of a broader campaign across districts including Pulwama, Shopian, and Baramulla.In Pulwama, police conducted coordinated search operations and Cordon and Search Operations (CASO) in areas such as Rajpora, Rahmoo, and Lelhar, targeting suspected drug peddlers. A medical store in Pulwama town was sealed in coordination with the Drug Inspector for violations related to controlled substances. Authorities also carried out inspections of pharmacies to prevent misuse of psychotropic drugs and ensure compliance with regulations.In Shopian, police launched a special anti-drug CASO in identified hotspots, including the Baba Mohalla area, conducting searches at the residences of suspected drug peddlers. The operation aimed to dismantle local drug networks and disrupt supply chains.In Baramulla, joint inspection drives were conducted at Palhalan in coordination with the Health Department to monitor the sale of scheduled drugs. Surprise checks were also carried out at Kreeri bus stand by police teams to curb drug trafficking and other illegal activities.Meanwhile, as part of outreach efforts, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg held a meeting with religious leaders from various communities, including imams, members of the Shia community, the Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, and representatives of the migrant Hindu community.Garg appreciated the role of religious leaders in supporting the anti-drug campaign, highlighting their influence in spreading awareness and mobilising communities against substance abuse.Officials said the ongoing campaign aims not only to enforce the law but also to build a drug-free society through coordinated action and public participation.
