Kashmir Counter-Intelligence detain 5 for smuggling SIM cards into jail
Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Tuesday said it has detained five persons for their alleged involvement in smuggling SIM cards inside the Central Jail, officials said.
The SIM cards were smuggled for their use by jail inmates, including terrorists, the officials added.
A spokesman of the CIK said that the individuals were detained for questioning in connection with the investigation of a case, which has been registered at Police Station CIK.
Police Station CIK had earlier carried out searches inside the Central Jail premises and it was found that these suspects in connivance with some inmates have procured and transported SIM cards inside the Jail for its use in a variety of terror-related activities, added the spokesman.
“The role of vendors of different Telecom Service Providers who have issued these SIM cards is being ascertained and further arrests are expected, he said, adding the suspects detained belong to the areas of Dawoodpora Anantnag, Qamarwari Srinagar, Nathpora, Kaloosa, Bandipora and Kursu Padshahibagh, Srinagar.
