Ladakh signs MoU with Centre to strengthen rural water supply

In a special provision, the Centre has approved 100 per cent funding for household water connections

The Ladakh administration has taken a significant step toward ensuring a sustainable and reliable drinking water supply by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.

Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena said the agreement was signed in the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil.

The MoU aims to provide clean and adequate drinking water to every rural household through functional tap connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

In a special provision, the Centre has approved 100 per cent funding for household water connections in Ladakh, compared to 60–90 percent support in other states and Union Territories.

“I sincerely thank the Government of India for its continued financial and technical support. This collaboration will go a long way in ensuring water security and climate resilience in Ladakh,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
