Properties worth Rs 2 crore of drug peddlers attached in Srinagar
Action part of ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking under the ‘Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan'
Immovable properties worth over Rs 2 crores belonging to alleged drug peddlers were attached here, police said on Thursday. The action is part of the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking under the 100-Day ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan’, they said.
The police have attached immovable properties worth over Rs 2 crore in the Chanapora and Qamarwari areas.
In the first action, Chanapora police station attached a double-storey residential house with an attic worth approximately Rs 1 crore belonging to accused Huzaif Shabir Dar, a resident of Budshahnagar Chanapora. The accused is involved in a case registered under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act at Chanapora police station, the spokesman said.
During the investigation, it was established that the property had allegedly been acquired through proceeds generated from drug trafficking, he said.
The property was subsequently attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act in the presence of independent witnesses and in accordance with legal procedure, he said.
As per the attachment order, the owner has been barred from selling, leasing, transferring, or creating any third-party interest in the property until further orders.
In another case, the Qamarwari police post attached a double-storey residential house belonging to alleged drug peddler Basit Ahmad Baba alias Aikan, a resident of the Barthana area of Qamarwari, under Section 68(F)(1) of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The property, recorded in the name of his father Mohammad Yousuf Baba, falls under Khasra No. 100 and has an estimated market value of over Rs 1 crore, the spokesman said.
He said the action was part of the Srinagar Police’s efforts to dismantle the financial networks of drug traffickers by targeting assets acquired through the illicit narcotics trade.
