Punjab assures relief for J&K livestock traders after Minister’s intervention

In a step towards resolving the long-pending issues faced by livestock traders, Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Satish Sharma, held a series of meetings with senior Punjab Government functionaries, leading to immediate directions for addressing the concerns of the trading community.
Sharma held detailed discussions with Punjab’s Animal Husbandry Minister, the Chief Secretary, the Secretary, Science & Technology, and the Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.
Officials said the meetings primarily focused on finding an immediate and practical solution to issues affecting mutton traders, which have disrupted the smooth movement of livestock and caused hardships to the trading community.
During the deliberations, Sharma strongly projected the concerns of traders and stressed the need for coordinated action between the governments of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab to facilitate hassle-free transportation of livestock while ensuring compliance with regulatory norms.
Responding positively to the Minister’s intervention, the Punjab Government issued on-the-spot directions to the concerned departments to take immediate steps to resolve the issues. The decisions are expected to ease the difficulties faced by traders and improve coordination between Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
Expressing satisfaction over the outcome, Sharma said protecting the interests of traders and ensuring the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities remains a priority of the government.
The meetings also focused on strengthening cooperation in the animal husbandry sector. Both sides discussed measures to improve livestock management, disease control, scientific breeding practices and veterinary services through greater collaboration and the exchange of best practices.
