Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting of senior police and civil administration officials at the Police Control Room, Kashmir, to review the law and order situation.
The meeting was attended by Nalin Prabhat, DGP J-K; and other top officers.
The security review came as the Valley witnessed protests over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in a US-Israel strike. On Sunday and Monday, thousands of people took to the streets to protest the killing. Several people, including policemen, suffered injuries as clashes took place on Monday between protesters and the security personnel.
A spokesperson said the Lieutenant Governor directed the officers to remain on heightened alert and take all necessary measures to ensure public peace.
The Lieutenant Governor also appealed to the citizens and community leaders to uphold harmony and contribute to an atmosphere of calm and goodwill in society.
“Preserving peace and sustaining the progress of society is a shared responsibility that rests equally upon each one of us,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor shared on X: “Chaired a meeting of senior police and civil administration officials at the Police Control Room, Kashmir, to review the law and order situation. Directed the officers to remain on heightened alert and take all necessary measures to ensure public peace.
Earlier in the day, the L-G also held in-depth deliberations on the prevailing security scenario in the UT.
Officials said on Tuesday, the meeting was attended by Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command; Nalin Prabhat, DGP, J&K; Lieutenant General Prashant Srivastava, GoC 15 Corps, and Major General Balbir Singh, MGGS, Northern Command at Lok Bhavan, Srinagar.
A government spokesperson also said Rajesh Kumar, Additional Director General (ADG), CRPF, J&K, called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday.
