Search operation continues in Rajouri after encounter
According to intelligence inputs, movement of two to three terrorists had been reported in the area
Massive search operations continued in Rajouri district on Sunday, a day after an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the area.
The Army on Saturday said contact was established with terrorists around 11.30 am in the Gambhir Muglan area of Rajouri during an intelligence-based joint operation conducted with J&K Police and the CRPF.
“Troops responded swiftly with calibrated action. A firefight ensued and a cordon has been effectively established,” the Army said in a statement.
According to officials, a group of two to three terrorists, believed to have infiltrated from across the border in Pakistan, was hiding in the area when contact was established. The terrorists are suspected to be highly trained and equipped with sophisticated weapons.
On Sunday, the search operation was expanded to other parts of Rajouri district and adjoining areas to ensure that the ultras do not escape the security cordon. Additional security personnel were deployed to assist in the operation, officials said.

Locals reportedly informed security forces about the presence of three to four masked persons in the area on Saturday, following which the operation was launched.
Security forces also carried out a search operation in the Gudha Brahmana area of Akhnoor in Jammu district following the encounter.
Officials said the Army had been receiving inputs over the past few weeks about possible infiltration attempts from across the border, prompting heightened vigil along the Line of Control (LoC).
