Shah reviews security in J&K
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday conducted a review of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), following several recent terror incidents in the region, sources said.
The review meeting, which is expected to continue on Wednesday, is a follow-up to a similar meeting held on December 19, 2024.
Top officials from the Army, J&K Police, and paramilitary forces attended the meeting, including Kashmir IG VK Birdi and Jammu IG BS Tuti. The officials briefed Shah on the prevailing security situation and the ongoing operations against terrorists. The meeting was convened a day after the terror attack in Kulgam district, South Kashmir.
During the December review meeting, Shah had directed security agencies to work in a coordinated manner to eliminate terrorism. The government maintains that there has been a significant decline in terrorist incidents and youth recruitment into terrorist organisations.
In the past week, security forces launched a major operation in the higher reaches and forest areas along the Line of Control to neutralise terrorists involved in multiple attacks last year. Areas like Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Jammu, and Rajouri have seen increased terror activity in recent years.
