The Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Dilbag Singh today said the investigation into the Shopian “encounter” was in the final stages.

Last week, the police had confirmed that the DNA samples of the parents of three youths from Rajouri district had matched with those killed in Amshipora, Shopian, on July 18.

“The SSP, Shopian, is monitoring the investigation process of the case and very soon, details about the case will be shared. Our investigations are in the final stage,” the Director-General of Police Dilbag Singh told reporters at Awantipora in Pulwama district.

He said investigations, both by the Army and the police in the case, were on.

Three residents of Rajouri, Imtiyaz Ahmad, Abrar Ahmad, and Mohammad Ibrar, were allegedly killed by the Army in an “encounter” at Amshipora, Shopian on July 18.

A court of inquiry by the Army admitted that the powers vested in the soldiers under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) were “prima facie exceeded” in the encounter and initiated a disciplinary action in the case.
