Srinagar police tighten noose around drug peddlers
This action, sanctioned by the District Police Headquarters, Srinagar, is a significant move to monitor and dismantle organised drug networks operating in the region, the police stated.
According to officials, the individuals listed in these history sheets have a well-documented record of drug-related offences, particularly under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
“Their activities primarily revolve around the illicit trade and distribution of narcotics, posing a serious threat to the youth of Srinagar,” the police said.
Despite multiple arrests and legal actions, many of these offenders have continued their illegal operations, endangering public safety and order. Some of them, currently behind bars, are also implicated in other criminal activities, including fraud, assault and organised drug trafficking, further underscoring their status as repeat offenders, the statement added.
The Srinagar police emphasised that this initiative is part of intensified anti-drug operations aimed at eliminating the drug menace from society.
“Jammu and Kashmir Police remains committed to ensuring a drug-free environment and urges the public to support these efforts by reporting any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking,” the statement concluded.
