“Five youths, including two juveniles, were rescued from terror folds, counselled and handed over to their parents in Pattan area of Baramulla district,” SSP Amod Nagpure told reporters in Pattan, 30 km from here.

He said the police and the Army unearthed the module in which Pakistani handlers through social media were trying to lure youths into joining terrorist ranks and act against the Government of India.

“As per information received from reliable sources, some youngsters were being enticed by terror handlers from Pakistan to join terrorist outfits. The security forces first traced these youths and they were subjected to sustained questioning with the help of their parents. On their disclosure, it was learnt that these youths were in touch with terrorist handlers in Pakistan through social media to get recruited into terror outfits,” the officer said.

He said the terror handlers were trying to radicalise them. “These boys, all teenagers, have now been handed over to parents after their proper counselling,” he added.

Nagpure said while security forces were firm in their resolve to defeat nefarious designs of the enemy, parents should also keep a vigil on the activities of their children and cooperate with the police.

Meanwhile, DGP Dilbag Singh visited Rajouri where he chaired a high-level meeting of Army, CRPF and police officers to review the security scenario in the district. The DGP was accompanied by ADGP (Jammu zone) Mukesh Singh. Dhangri village in the district had witnessed terrorist attacks on January 1 and 2 in which several civilians lost their lives.

He emphasised on utilising modern technology and human intelligence to monitor the movements of suspects on the border and also in the hinterland. He also issued directions for stringent action against every individual who provided any support to terrorists in executing the cowardly attack.

The DGP directed for further strengthening the security grid by conducting joint patrolling and setting up checkpoints besides ensuring the area domination.
