Train cancellations in Jammu division to continue till June
These trains had remained suspended since flashfloods caused widespread damage in the Jammu region last year
In a major inconvenience for passengers, the Jammu Division of Indian Railways has announced an extension in the cancellation of 20 trains till the end of May and early June. These trains had remained suspended since flashfloods caused widespread damage in the Jammu region last year and were earlier cancelled only till March–April.
However, some relief has been announced, with the operations of four trains—including a Vande Bharat Express—set to resume from April.
An official said, “Due to operational reasons in the Jammu Division of Northern Railway, the operation of some trains will be resumed, while the cancellation, short termination, and short origination periods of other trains have been extended.”
Sources said railway infrastructure damaged during the floods in August–September last year is still under repair. The Railways has not shared specific details regarding damage to bridges and other structures, necessitating the extended cancellations.
The trains that will remain cancelled till May–June include Jammu Tawi–Kathgodam Garib Rath (12207/12208), Kathgodam–Kanpur Garib Rath (12209/12210), Delhi Sarai Rohilla–Jammu Express (12265/12266), Kalka–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Express (14503/14504), Ghazipur–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Express (14611/14612), Janmabhoomi Express between Bhavnagar Terminus and Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan (MCTM) Railway Station, Udhampur (19107/19108), Delhi Sarai Rohilla–Udhampur AC Express (22401/22402), Subedarganj–MCTM Express (22431/22432), Tirupati–Jammu Tawi Humsafar Express (22705/22706), and Amritsar–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Vande Bharat Express (26405/26406).
The cancellations affect major routes connecting Jammu, Katra, and Udhampur in the Jammu Division.
In addition, 14 trains will continue to operate with curtailed routes during the extended period. These include Durg–MCTM Superfast Express (12549/12550), Sabarmati–Jammu Express (19223/19224), Sabarmati–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Vande Bharat Express (19415/19416), Subedarganj–SVDK Jammu Mail (20433/20434), Durg–MCTM Express (20847/20848), Kota–MCTM Weekly Express (20985/20986), and Indore–Udhampur Express (22941/22942). These trains will either originate or terminate at intermediate stations.
Trains scheduled to be restored from April 1 include the New Delhi–Katra Vande Bharat Express (22439/22440) and the Bhagat Ki Kothi (BGKT) Jodhpur–Jammu train (14803/14804).
Meanwhile, Northern Railway General Manager Ashok Kumar Verma on Thursday conducted an extensive inspection of the Srinagar–Katra rail section. The visit comes amid challenging weather conditions in the Kashmir Valley, with heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures.
During the inspection, Verma visited key stations including Srinagar, Pampore, Anantnag, and Qazigund, and reviewed passenger amenities to ensure commuter comfort during the harsh winter season.
