Two soldiers dead, 2 critically injured in Poonch fratricide

In a fratricide incident at Surankote in Poonch district of Jammu division, a soldier allegedly killed his colleague and injured two others before turning the gun on himself.

Naik Imtiaz Ahmed had a scuffle with Sepoy Ibrar Ahmed, both part of a road opening party, at the 156 Territorial Army battalion around 5.30 am today.

In a fit of rage, Imtiaz allegedly shot dead Ibrar by firing from his service rifle while Sepoy Makhan Singh and Naik Khalil Ahmed were injured. Makhan, Khalil and Imtiaz were airlifted to a military hospital in Udhampur where Imtiaz succumbed to his injuries. Ibrar was from Kalakote in Rajouri and Imtiaz from Mendhar in Poonch. The Army has launched an inquiry while the police have registered an FIR.
