Will ensure equitable development, focus on far-flung areas: Ladakh L-G

Said development should not remain confined to urban centres but must reach the most difficult and inaccessible regions

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, on Thursday said the Union Territory administration is committed to ensuring equitable and inclusive development across Ladakh, with special emphasis on far-flung, remote and border areas.

He reiterated that Said  so that every citizen of Ladakh benefits from progress and an improved quality of life.

The Lieutenant Governor was addressing a public grievance redressal camp at Shakar Chiktan, where he interacted with local residents and patiently listened to their issues, concerns, and suggestions related to development and public welfare. Representatives from sixteen villages raised various issues pertaining to the sub-division.

Highlighting the importance of direct engagement between the administration and the public, the L-G said such interactions help in understanding ground realities and strengthening public trust. He assured the people that the grievances raised during the camp would be examined carefully and necessary directions would be issued to the concerned departments for their timely redressal.

Gupta stated that since Ladakh was accorded Union Territory status in 2019, the pace of development has increased significantly across the region, with the administration consistently advancing public welfare and development initiatives.

Recalling the contribution of the people of Kargil, particularly those residing in border areas, the L-G said they have always stood with the nation during challenging times, adding that their sacrifice, courage and patriotism continue to inspire the country.

The Lieutenant Governor noted that sustained improvements in road connectivity, healthcare, education, power supply, internet services and administrative delivery systems have significantly enhanced the quality of life in Ladakh. He further said that initiatives promoting transparent governance, digital services, rural development, skill development and strengthening of Panchayati Raj institutions are being implemented at a rapid pace, emphasising that development of border areas is crucial for the overall development of the nation.

Emphasising the role of youth, the L-G said education, skill development, and employment opportunities for young people remain key priorities, enabling them to contribute actively to Ladakh’s development while continuing to live and work in their home region.

Assuring the people of Shakar Chiktan, the venue of the camp, the Lieutenant Governor said region-specific demands, including improved access to postal and banking services, enhancement of BSNL connectivity, and strengthening of basic civic amenities, would be addressed on a priority basis. He added that he personally reviews public grievance representations to ensure prompt examination and speedy resolution.
