1 held for attack on LPU student

Phagwara: The police arrested one person allegedly involved in attack and snatching a laptop from a student of Lovely Professional University (LPU) on Monday, while his accomplice managed to escape.



Phagwara: The police arrested one person allegedly involved in attack and snatching a laptop from a student of Lovely Professional University (LPU) on Monday, while his accomplice managed to escape. The police nabbed one accused, identified as Raju, a resident of Jagatpur village, while his accomplice Rajbir, a resident of the same village, managed to flee. The police  seized a laptop, one ‘Datar’, and a motorcycle (PB-08CW-3654) from Raju. These two armed motorcyclists had attacked and wounded Shah Nawaj, a BTech student of the LPU, near Hardasspur village, on February 8 and snatched his laptop when the victim was on his way to PG accommodation. When the victim resisted the attackers, they had attacked him with a knife. The victim was admitted to a hospital. The police had registered a case. oc

Fraud cases

On a complaint lodged by Ankur Jain, a resident of Khanna, the Satnampura police have registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC against Ragbir Singh of Mansa Devi Nagar, Hadiabad. He has been charged of duping the victim of Rs 80,000. Meanwhile, in a complaint lodged by AGM of the local sugar mills Umesh Sharma, the police have registered a case under Sections 860 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66 of the IT Act against M/S Sharma traders Mumbai. He has been charged of duping the sugar mills of Rs 18,32,250 on the pretext of sending 1,000 units of Coragen being used for sugarcane crops.  oc

1 killed in mishap

A motorcyclist, identified as Vikramjit Singh (25), a resident of Amritsar, was killed on Sunday as a cow hit his bike near Mehtan village on the national highway.The victim was on his way to Amritsar. He was rushed to the local Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, said the police. oc

Man arrested with stolen material

The police seized pipes of submersible pumps worth Rs 50,000 from Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Daddal Mohalla, and arrested him on Monday. The pipes were stolen from Gurdev Singh’s residence from Mehtan village on Sunday night. oc
