As many as 20 teams of the PSPCL conducted surprise checks in several villages and detected 140 cases of electricity theft on Thursday. Each team was led by an SDO-rank official.

Jatinder Singh, Superintendent Engineer (SE) of the local Powercom circle, said the inspection was carried out in areas falling under Sheron, Cheema Paringdi and Jaur Singh Wala feeders. The teams checked 1,796 power connections and found 140 consumers stealing electricity.

The SE said Rs 27.85-lakh fine was collected from the errants.
