Post-incident of burning of four children alive in a condemned vehicle at Longowal, the transport authorities today checked 52 vehicles, challaned 15 and impounded two of them.
Regional Transport Authority Secretary Nayan Jassal said since yesterday 133 vehicles had been checked, 37 challaned and four of them impounded for flouting safety norms. Likewise, the Nakodar Sub Divisional Magistrate checked eight vehicles and challaned three of them.
The Shahkot SDM checked five vehicles and challaned one.
The SDM II, along with the police, checked 41 vehicles, challaned eight and impounded one. The Phillaur SDM checked 27 vehicles, challaned 10 and impounded one of them for violating the norms.
The RTA Secretary said every effort would be made to check vehicles which were violating the security norms and playing havoc with lives of schoolchildren.
7-year-old dies in school bus mishap
A seven-year-old child got crushed under the bus of a private school and lost his life at Khalewal village near Lohian. The incident occurred due to alleged negligence on part of the school bus driver. The deceased was identified as Vansh, son of Joginder Singh. Bus driver Sukhbir Singh has been arrested and booked by the Lohian police.
