The property tax wing of the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation has issued notice to more than 150 owners for failing to clear their dues.
Recently, The Tribune highlighted that the MC had constituted five special teams to strengthen property tax recovery. These teams have been conducting daily surveys and issuing notices to defaulters during house-to-house visits in upscale localities.
Officials said more than 100 houses were being surveyed every day and several residents were depositing their property tax on the spot. The recovery drive has already begun showing results.
The teams are covering prominent areas such as Model Town, Urban Estate Phase 2, Green Model Town, Surya Enclave and other adjoining colonies.
Mayor Vaneet Dhir and MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi stressed the importance of timely payment of property tax, stating that it’s crucial for the city’s development and civic infrastructure. They appealed to residents to fulfil their civic duty by paying their taxes on time.
Bhupinder Singh, superintendent of the property tax wing, said they had been running an extensive awareness campaign through social media, radio and newspapers to educate citizens. He added that since the formation of special teams, daily tax recovery has increased significantly. “There has been an average increase of Rs 2.5 lakh in property tax collection per day,” he said.
