Five police personnel, including two ASIs, have been suspended for negligence in duty after an undertrial’s escape from the court complex on Thursday.

SSP Gaurav Garg cofirmed late this evening that the five police personnel who took the undertrial to the court, have been suspended on the basis of preliminary inquiry on the charge of negligence in duty.

The suspended police personnel include ASIs Zorawar Singh and Paramjit Singh, head constable Rampal, constable Pradeep Singh and woman constable Kamlesh. The police personnel have been suspended and sent to the Police Lines with immediate effect.

Manjit Singh, alias Chappi, a resident of Handowal, who is an under trial in an NDPS case, had escaped from the court premises on Thursday by dodging the police after he had appeared before the court.

The police personnel chased him but he fled the spot with his companion, who was waiting for him on a motorcycle on the main road near the court.
