2 more members of robbers’ gang held, two pistols seized

The police have arrested two more members of the gang involved in looting petrol pumps at gunpoint in the district and firing at a police party on Sunday. Notably, two of these accused were arrested after being injured in an encounter and are undergoing treatment in a local hospital. Several criminal cases have been registered against the accused. Two pistols and six cartridges have been recovered from them.
SSP Surendra Lamba, while addressing a press conference, said three masked men had looted Rs 50,000 at gunpoint from a petrol pump in village Poonge on Phagwara Road on February 15. Earlier, the accused had beaten a person near Nasrala and snatched a bike from him.
The SSP said the robbers had looted cash worth Rs 15,000 at gunpoint from another petrol pump in Dasuya on February 17. SSP Lamba said a special team of police was formed under the supervision of SP (D) Sarbjit Singh Bahia.
On Sunday, near Taragarh village, the two accused fired at a police party and when the police opened fire, the two were injured, arrested and admitted to the civil hospital for treatment. They were identified as Mohan Kumar, alias Mandeep, a resident of Guru Ramdas Nagar, Kalia Colony in Jalandhar, and Akash Kumar, a resident of Dhogdi Road Bhatta Colony, Noorpur in Jalandhar.
The SSP said after this, based on the infromation received during investigation of the arrested-accused, two more were arrested.
They were identified as Sam Khan, alias Sam, a resident of Hargobind Nagar in Jalandhar and Umesh Kumar, alias Ricky, a resident of Noorpur Colony in Jalandhar. He said the accused had done a recce before robbing the pump in Poonge village. Several cases are already pending against them.
