22-yr-old dies of drug overdose

A 22-year-old youth died due to drug overdose at a village here.

His body was found at a local stadium in Dhapai village here on Sunday evening. The victim has been identified as Manpreet Singh, a bus conductor.

The incident came to light when some children playing in the stadium spotted the victim, who was lying in an unconscious condition. Later, they informed his kin. When they reached the spot, they found Manpreet in a critical condition, with a syringe injected in his leg and another lying by his side. The kin rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

As per ASI Sadar, Kapurthala, Jatinderpal Singh, a case has been registered today against some unknown persons, who as per his family, are responsible for luring Manpreet into drugs. A probe in the case was on.

The police have been tracing his call details. They will also probe the victim’s links with unidentified men.

The ASI said deceased’s brother Gurpreet Singh in his complaint had stated that his brother was into drugs since long. But over the time, the family managed to keep him away from the menace and he even got a job of a bus conductor.

It was only since the past two-three months that Manpreet again started taking drugs in the influence of his friends and was even bunking off from his job to spend time with them. He used to return home late at night, he added. — OC
