23-year-old woman's body found hanging from tree in Jalandhar

The body of a 23-year-old woman was discovered hanging from a tree near a rail track between Lohian Khas and Sultanpur Lodhi on Friday. The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Jalandhar has registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC (suspicious death) and initiated proceedings.

According to police, the woman had an altercation with her parents on September 26 regarding her employment at the Sultanpur Lodhi mandi, where her father works. She left her home that evening, and her body was found by residents the next morning.

The police sent the body for the postmortem examination and found no visible injuries. The woman’s family, originally from Rajasthan, had moved to Jalandhar for work. Her father is a labourer at the Sultanpur Lodhi mandi, and they reside in shanties nearby.

SHO GRP police station, Palwinder Singh, said, “The girl argued with her parents on Thursday evening. They wanted her to work at the mandi, but she refused. Upset, she left her house that night, and her family searched for her. The next morning, her body was found hanging. The family hasn’t pressed charges against anyone.”
