Jalandhar, June 19

A sum of Rs 3.5-5 lakh in cash and a gold coin were stolen from Sood Mohalla in Phagwara here on Saturday. The valuables were stolen from the house of 70-year-old Surjit Sood, who lives alone in his house. A case under Sections 454 and 380 of the IPC was lodged against unidentified persons at the Phagwara police station.

Surjit Singh, who stays alone in the house, had gone out when the robbery happened. On returning home, he discovered that cash and valuables had been stolen. He called his son-in-law and daughter who reached the spot.

The family lodged a formal complaint on the issue today after which police has started investigations. Surjit has four daughters, who also visited the house.

SHO, Phagwara city police station, Amandeep Kumar said, “A sum of Rs 3.5-5 lakh had been stolen from the house along with a gold coin. A liquor bottle, which was initially thought to be stolen was later found on the roof. We are rounding up suspects and a headway is expected soon.”

Sources said over Rs 3 lakh of the stolen cash was already recovered by the police until the filing of the report.
