3,595 file nominations on Day 3

As many as 3,595 candidates filed papers on the third day of making nominations for the panchayat poll in the district. The elections are scheduled to be held on December 30.

District Electoral Officer Varinder Kumar Sharma said 870 nominations were received for the posts of sarpanch, including 101 in the Jalandhar East block, 76 in Adampur block, 70 in Shahkot block, 66 in Lohian block, 75 in Jalandhar West, 87 in Bhogpur block, 110 in Phillaur block, 66 in Nurmahal block, 71 in Rurka Kalan block, 82 in Nakodar block and 66 in Mehatpur block.

Sharma said 2,725 nominations were received for the post of panch, including 302 from the Jalandhar East block, 222 from Adampur block, 171 from Shahkot block, 181 from Lohian block, 219 from Jalandhar West block, 298 from Bhogpur block, 352 from Phillaur block, 251 from Nurmahal block, 287 from Rurka block, 278 from Nakodar block and 164 from Mehatpur block.

He said December 19 would be the last date for filing the nominations.

The Deputy Commissioner said the nominations papers would be scrutinised on December 20 while the date for withdrawal of the nominations would be December 21, which would also be the date for allotting the election symbols to candidates.

Sharma said the voting would be held on December 30 from 8 am to 4 pm and the counting of votes would be held on the same day.
