The police have arrested three persons, who were allegedly involved in vehicle thefts, with three stolen two-wheelers.

The suspects have been identified as Ranjit Singh, a resident of Kalia Colony; Suraj Kumar, a resident of Banaras in Uttar Pradesh; and Prabhjot Singh, a resident of Reru Pind.

Rupinder Singh, Station House Officer, Division No. 8 police station, said, “It seems that the suspects are professional criminals. They have stolen a number of vehicles from the city and neighbouring areas.”

“They were arrested during the ongoing checking of vehicles near Perfect Chowk. We have recovered three two-wheelers — two Activa scooters and a Discover bike without a number plate,” said the SHO.

The police officer added that the suspects were in their mid-20s.

“They had started lifting vehicles for earning money. With their arrest, we are hopeful of solving some more cases,” he said.

A case under Sections 379, 380 and 457 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against suspects at the Division No. 8 police station.

Meanwhile, the police on Friday claimed to have arrested two persons for stealing gold in the Rama Mandi area.

Deepak Kumar (25), a resident of Bolina village, was arrested on the charge of stealing gold ornaments from Balwinder Singh’s resident in Rama Mandi on January 6. He was arrested during a naka on the Ladhewali road near the GNDU regional campus. Two sets of gold earrings and two gold rings were recovered from him.

He was produced in a local court, which sent him to police remand for further investigation. He was booked in different police stations.

Raja (55), a resident of New Shivaji Nagar in Ludhiana, was arrested for allegedly stealing cash from a city-based resident near Rama Mandi.

Gold ornaments, including four pair of earrings and five rings, were recovered from him.

The police booked him on June 26, 2018.
