JALANDHAR: The Lohian and Sadar police here have arrested two women from Tanzania and one from Nigeria and seized 1.3 kg of heroin from them in two incidents.

The Lohian and Sadar police here have arrested two women from Tanzania and one from Nigeria and seized 1.3 kg of heroin from them in two incidents.

While the two Tanzanian nationals, Beatrice Sustenes of Moshi, and Chikku of Dar Es Salaam, were arrested at Motiour village on Thursday, Nigerian national Lilian was nabbed along with Gursagar Singh (24) of Nadalo village at Shankar village in a separate incident.

SSP (Rural) Jalandhar, Navjot Singh Mahal, said during checks at Motipur gate, two foreign women coming from the Kala Sanghia road, carrying two black bags, were apprehended and 1 kg and 100 gm of heroin recovered from them.

He said after spotting the police, they threw the bags on the road and tried to flee the spot but were apprehended by Sub-Inspector Amandeep Kaur, along with women constables Sharanjeet Kumar and Harpreet Kaur. On checking, 600 gm of heroin was recovered from Chikku’s bag and 500 gm of heroin was found in Sustenes’ bag. Both were taken into the custody and a case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against them at the Lohian police station.

The SSP said since July 13 this year, the rural police had arrested nine foreign nationals and seized 4.650 kg of heroin from them.

Currently residing in Delhi, the duo, during interrogation, revealed that they had brought the contraband from smuggler Ebo in Delhi, who had been sending them for various similar tasks and they were going to deliver the consignment to Latiawal and Toti villages in Kapurthala.

Meanwhile, the SSP said a team of the Nakodar Sadar police, led by ASI Loveleen Kumar, had arrested Lilian (28) of Street Banin City in Nigeria and Gursagar Singh (24) of Nadalo village in Hoshiarpur after recovering 200 gm of heroin from their possession. Mahal said the ASI, along with a police party, was carrying out a checking near the Shankar railway crossing and stopped a Swift Dzire (bearing registration No. DL-1-ZB-9670) for checking but its driver tried to flee away after stopping the car but was apprehended.

He said on frisking, the police party seized 50 gm of heroin from his possession and 150 gm of heroin, which was packed in a small piece of polythene, from Lilian who was sitting in the car. A case was under Section 21 of the NDPS Act was registered against them at the Nakodar Sadar police station.
