3 members of looters’ gang arrested
The Phillaur police on Friday arrested three members of a gang, which had been looting passersby and traders.
Addressing mediapersons, Sarwan Singh Bal, DSP, Phillaur, said all three accused had been meticulously planning heists. He said their modus operandi was to injure victims before robbing them.
In one of the recent incidents, the gang snatched Rs 17,500 from Roop Lal, a resident of Bholewal village, regarding which a case was registered by the Phillaur police, he said. The three arrested members of the gang were identified as — Sandeep Singh, alias Deepa, a resident Ashahur; Deepak, alias Deepu, a resident of Ramgarh, and Sukam Subham, alias Sabi, a resident of Mohalla Ravidaspura, Phillaur, the DSP said.
A case was registered on Thursday under Sections 309 and 111 of the BNS against the trio at the Phillaur police station, the DSP said.
Shubham and his accomplices had been involved in looting and snatching incidents for a long time, he said. Shubham and his accomplices had recently attacked a garment trader on the Akalpur road in Phillaur and looted Rs 10,000 from him, the DSP said. A case had been registered under Sections 309 (theft), 310-2 (dacoity), 111 (organised crime) and 332 (house trespass) of the BNS at the Phillaur police station November 19, 2024, in this connection, the DSP added.
Sandeep and Deepak, along with their other accomplices, had attacked a youth involved an ongoing land dispute at Kadhiana village, Jhandi peer, near the Sutlej river with sharp weapons on January 8 this year, he said.
A case was registered against the duo on January 16, 2025, under various sections of the BNS at the Phillaur police station in this connection, the DSP said.
The police recovered two bikes, five mobile phones and sharp weapons from the accused, he added.
