Jalandhar, February 22

The Punjab and UT Mulazim Pensioner Front is going to hold a protest in Mohali on February 24. From Jalandhar, nearly 3,000 contractual employees and permanent employees, along with pensioners, will go to Mohali to take part in the protest.

Ashish Julaha, one of the members of the front, said earlier, various unions were working at their own level. And on February 19, a meeting was held in which it was decided that they would fight for their rights in unison. Regularisation of services of contractual employees is one of their demands.

Besides, they have also been asking the government to implement the 6th Pay Commission,

They said it would be a state-level protest and the members would march towards the Vidhan Sabha. The members said the decision was taken because the government was not listening to them.

“We have been asking it to fulfill our demands for long but to no avail,” they said.

Julaha was earlier associated with the Theka Mulazam Action Committee that would often hold protests in a unique way.

Last year, the committee held a protest by cutting a cake made in the shape of a Twitter logo. The members wore caps on which ‘24th January Anti-promise Day’ was written. The members of the committee had said Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in a message, tweeted a year ago, said he would regularise the services of the employees working on a contractual basis but the promise was not fulfilled by him that is why they had decided to celebrate the day as ‘Anti-promise Day’.

On the cake the tweet of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh was printed which he had posted when the CM had sworn in. Julaha said they had been fighting for the rights of the employees working in various departments on a contractual basis, but no one was paying heed to them.
