Jalandhar: One person has been arrested after teams of the Excise Department seized 450 cases of liquor from a godown at Salempur Musalmana village at Basant Kunj here on Friday. The godown was being used to store Indian-made foreign liquor. As many as five to six makes of liquor were found at the godown today. While the tenant of the godown has been booked, the police are investigating into whether the owner of the godown was involved in the storage of liquor or not. The tenant has been booked under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act. Party Special, High Speed, Rajdhani, 777 Oak Vat and Everyday were among liquor makes seized from the godown. TNS
Miller booked for unbilled rice
Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by Assistant Food and Supplies Officer, Phagwara, Ashok Kumar, the Rawalpindi police here have registered a case under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC and Section 7 of the EC Act against Amit Ghumber, owner of Shiva Rice Mills, Phagwara, and some of his staff members on the charges of keeping 16,500 bags of unbilled rice, bearing stamps of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar Public Distribution System (PDS) on October 4. Vigilance staff of the Foods and Supplies Department found the rice bags at Shiva Rice Mill on October 3. The complainant said the miller hid the stock in a cattle shed at Ranipur village near Phagwara. OC
