5 held for group clash

The Commissionerate Police today arrested five persons involved in a clash between two groups on Wednesday night in Mota Singh Market here.

The suspects have been identified as Vinod Kumar of Raja Garden Colony, Bhagat Singh of Rastan Mohalla, Pankaj Kumar of Deep Nagar, Avtar Singh of Alipur and Shiva Kumar of New Beant Nagar.

Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said all of them belong to the group led by Chandan Kumar Manga, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, near Nakodar Chowk.

He said a case had been registered under Sections 307, 160, 148, 149, 379-B, IPC, and 13/3/67 of the Gambling Act at the Model Town police station.

He said the suspects were involved in gambling and fights and the others, around seven suspected persons, belonging to both groups would be arrested soon.

Bhullar said Aman of Baba Kahan Dass Nagar, who was leading the second group, was admitted to a private hospital near Kapurthala Chowk and police parties had been deployed at both hospitals.

He said the police had also seized 104 gambling cards, a motorcycle and Rs 10,000 in cash from the suspects, adding that a detailed probe was being carried out in the incident.
