64.4 per cent polling in Phagwara segment

PHAGWARA: As many as 60,877 men and 58,308 women exersice their franchise in the Phagwara Assembly segment on Sunday.

As many as 60,877 men and 58,308 women exersice their franchise in the Phagwara Assembly segment on Sunday. Except minor incidents of arguments among politicians, a total of 64.4 % polling was recorded in the elections.

Phagwara SDM Jai Inder Singh and Phagwara SP Mandeep Singh monitor the polling throughout the day. Few incidents of technical snags in EVMs were reported but the polling process was not disturbed.

More than 600 cops were deputed at around 220 polling booths in Phagwara. Around 600 government employees were deployed on poll duty.

Several newly-wedded couples and first-timer voters turned up at polling stations. They were welcomed by the polling staff. Members of the polling staff extended helping hand to elderly and disabled voters.

Students worked as volunteers at several polling booths, including model booths, controlled exclusively by women. Phagwara MLA Som Parkash and a BJP candidate from Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha seat attended different functions today after completion of the polling process.
