7,200 bottles of liquor seized, 1 held

The CIA staff, on the basis of secret information, seized a truck and a pick-up jeep carrying liquor licensed for sale in Arunachal Pradesh only.

The CIA staff, on the basis of secret information, seized a truck and a pick-up jeep carrying liquor licensed for sale in Arunachal Pradesh only.

The liquor was reportedly smuggled into Punjab for illegal sale. According to the CIA staff Dasuya in-charge Gobinder Singh, there were 600 cases in both vehicles containing 7,200 bottles of liquor, valued around Rs 6 lakh.

A man present with the vehicles was arrested, while a man accused of liquor smuggling Ashok Kumar and a driver escaped from the scene. The number of boxes which were seized from the site was 600. Also, both vehicles were impounded.

The person who was arrested on the spot was identified as Manjit Singh, alias Raju, A resident of Patial in Mukerian. Ashok Kumar and another driver, who fled from the scene, were being traced. A case has been registered against the accused in Hoshiarpur under various Sections of the Excise Act.
